21 DAYS OF FASTING & PRAYER

January 12th - February 2nd, 2025

WHY WE FAST

Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline demonstrated throughout the Bible. By intentionally abstaining from food or other distractions, we create space to seek God more fully. Fasting helps us quiet the noise of daily life, align our hearts with God’s will, and grow in dependence on Him. Modeled by Jesus, fasting is an invitation to experience deeper intimacy with God, amplify our prayers, and position ourselves to hear His voice. As we fast, we draw closer to His purpose and strength for our lives.

WAYS TO FAST

Fasting is a personal commitment between you and God, and there are many ways to practice it. Check out some common types of fasts to help you decide how you will participate:

  • A complete fast involves abstaining from all food, drinking only water and other clear liquids such as herbal teas or broths. This type of fast requires prayerful preparation and is often done for a short period.

It is recommended that you consult your personal medical professional before attempting a complete fast, especially if you have any health concerns or medical conditions.

  • A partial fast involves abstaining from food for specific parts of the day, such as skipping meals during daylight hours or fasting from sunrise to sunset. This is a great way to build discipline and dedicate intentional times to seek God.

  • Inspired by Daniel’s example in the Bible, this fast focuses on eating only fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and water. It abstains from meats, sweets, dairy, and processed foods. The Daniel Fast emphasizes simplicity and helps realign your focus on God.

  • Similar to a partial fast, intermittent fasting involves designating windows of time for eating and fasting. For example, you may eat only during an 8-hour window and fast the remaining 16 hours of the day.
